Would you give money to who does not give you its name?

By admin | July 30, 2008

I am really surprised to see that many directory owners expect business owners to pay for a listing but they don’t even say who they are and where they can be found.

Would YOU give your credit card info to a no name company?

I think that most people do a little background check before trusting anybody with their own name and with their money. If I am a business and you will advertise my name, I would like to know what kind of company you are and the very minimum, I would like to know your name, your address and how you define your business.

Your chances of having people actually paying you to have their listing will increase if you provide a physical address in the “contact us” page and a blur about your company in an about us page or even on the same contact form.

You can add your mailing address or location by editing the ‘contact us’ form. Having your phone number there is not a bad idea either. You will get promotional calls and mail, but that’s a little price to pay to bring in advertising dollars.

Don’t hide who you are and you will sale more.

Great tip. That’s something I’ve been preaching on another ecommerce type forum I’m a part of.

Too many people start up ecommerce sites and think that an email address (sometimes not even that…just a contact form) is enough. Many of them hide behind a private whois listing, giving the customer absolutely zero way of knowing who they are dealing with.

I say the exact same thing. You expect the customer to give you all their personal information, but you don’t put any information about yourself in return to earn that trust.

Some of my best sales, leads and best media attention (including front page of a major international newspaper) has been because my contact phone number was easy to find on my website when someone elses wasn’t.
