Remove GoogleUpdate.exe

By admin | September 4, 2008

For those who aren’t happy with Google’s Chrome and have or planning to uninstall take note of this. Once you uninstall the browser you will still have a GoogleUpdate.exe running in the background (taskmanager/processes). Here are a few easy steps to rid of this file along with hidden folders from Google.

press ctrl, shift and esc (to bring up task manager)
click on the processes tab
click on ‘googleupdate.exe’ (to highlight)
click on ‘end process’
ok the prompt

start > run and type msconfig
click on the ’startup’ tab
untick the box relevant to ‘googleupdate’
click on ‘ok’, ‘apply’ and restart at the prompt
Click the box and press ok at the next prompt (after restart)

Hidden folder
click Start
open My Computer
select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
select the View Tab
under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders
(to show hidden files)

C > documents and settings > (user) > local settings >application data >
delete the google folder

click Start
open My Computer
select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
select the View Tab
under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders
(to hide hidden files)
delete Google folder

start/run/regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Google/Delete Update Folder
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Delete Google Folder

Just thought I’d share since I had to go through this.
